Child Safety Standards
Scoreflection is a practice app for people learning an instrument, and a great many of them are children. This page states what we forbid, what we have built so that it stays forbidden, and how to reach us when something is wrong.
1. Child sexual abuse and exploitation is prohibited
Child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) is prohibited on every part of Scoreflection, without exception. This includes child sexual abuse material (CSAM), sexualised depictions of minors whether real, drawn or generated, grooming, sextortion, trafficking, and any other exploitation of a child. It also includes using Scoreflection to make contact with a child for any of those purposes.
Accounts that engage in it are removed permanently, and we report to the competent law-enforcement authorities.
2. Where users can reach each other
There is exactly one place: the community forum. The rest of Scoreflection — the sheet-music library, practice, the games, the tuner, progress — is single-player. There are no private messages, no photo or video sharing, and no user profiles beyond a chosen forum name, and an account adds no way for anyone to reach anyone.
Much of the app needs no account at all, and that is deliberate: a child who never signs up still has a usable product. Reading and importing scores, playback with the metronome, the tuner, progress, and the two games that only ask you to listen all work signed out. Having the app listen to a child play and mark the notes is the paid Practice plan, and a plan is tied to an account — so it is not something a child sets up alone. A paid subscription requires the legal capacity to enter into a contract, and an account may be set up by a parent or guardian on a child's behalf. An account stores an age band rather than a date of birth, and the sound of the playing stays on the device either way.
The forum is for members aged 16 and over. Membership requires an age declaration and a real name held privately by us, so that there is somebody behind every post; the forum itself shows only a nickname of the member's choosing.
3. Reporting a concern
Anyone can report content or behaviour, whether or not they have an account:
- In the app and on the forum, using the report control on the post or member concerned.
- By email to [email protected].
Reports of child endangerment are prioritised over everything else in the queue. You do not need to be certain — tell us what you saw and let us look.
If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. We are not an emergency service and cannot act at that speed.
4. What we do with a report
- We review it and remove violating content.
- On obtaining actual knowledge of CSAM we remove it and preserve what the law requires us to preserve.
- We report to the competent law-enforcement authorities, and to the relevant national reporting body where one applies.
- We terminate the accounts involved and block re-registration as far as we are able.
5. Child safety point of contact
Our designated child safety contact can be reached at [email protected]. This address is for regulators, platform operators, parents, teachers and anyone else who needs to raise a child safety matter with us directly, and it reaches someone who can act.
6. What Scoreflection does not do
These are design decisions, not settings, and they are why most of the risks that apply to social apps do not arise here:
- No advertising, and no advertising SDKs in the app.
- No third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
- No private messaging between members.
- No image or video sharing: nothing a member uploads is ever shown to another member.
- A photographed page of sheet music is sent to our server to be read, then discarded. It is never stored, never published and never seen by another person. Everything after the scan happens on the phone.
- The public library is public-domain music only, so there is no user-uploaded media library to police.
7. Independent help and advice
You do not have to come to us. These services are independent of Scoreflection and can help whether or not the matter involves this app:
- Germany: Nummer gegen Kummer — 116 111 (children and young people), 0800 111 0 550 (parents). nummergegenkummer.de
- Germany: jugendschutz.net — jugendschutz.net
- United Kingdom: Childline — 0800 1111. childline.org.uk
- European Union: the child helpline number 116 111 works in most member states.
- Elsewhere: Child Helpline International lists a service for most countries. childhelplineinternational.org
8. Changes
We will update this page as the product changes. The date at the top is the last change.
